There are many forms of betting available in Colombia. The country legalized casinos a few decades ago and continues to regulate the industry of our time. Players have access to a wide selection of board games, sports betting, slot machines, poker at some large casinos and national raffles.
The legitimacy of online gambling sites in Colombia has been a big question mark, but the new law passed in 2016 provides much needed clarity and is based on open markets. Colombia’s eGaming law has legalized almost all forms of online gambling, including casino games, sports betting, poker, gambling, fantasy sports, and more. Now, international operators can apply for a full Colombian market license.
Colombia is still in its early stages of enforcing its gambling law, but many online gambling sites have been marketed for years. We expect some changes in the future, since Colombia implements the eGaming Act, but we can guarantee that the above mentioned Colombian betting sites are now accepting customers.
For example, in the UK there is a powerful regulator that controls all Internet gaming in the country. Because most sites in the UK accept players from Colombia, you can use the system and play on sites that must abide by strict standards of conduct. Every licensed website in the UK is a safe place to bet on real money.
There is no large site that allows you to keep your account balance in Colombian pesos. However, they do have an office exchange. When you sign up for an account, select the dollar as your currency. Coljuegos is responsible for supervising the industry, granting casino licenses and ensuring that all institutions comply with the standards established by Colombian legislation.
The game was ratified in accordance with the 1943 Act. Since then, free casino operators have offered their games to all citizens and visitors over the age of 18. About two dozen casinos work in Colombia, especially in large cities. There are at least a dozen casinos in Bogota. The Colombian gambling site has been a difficult issue for the right decision making for years due to outdated gambling laws. By 2016, existing laws did not mention the Internet and abandoned the legality of Internet gambling in the gray area. At some point, Coljuegos issued a warning to offshore operators in 2013, the government will sue anyone who offers online games to Colombians.
The warning is two. First, Colombian law does not explicitly prohibit online gambling, so it is doubtful that promoters can take place. Second, offshore game operators do not have a physical presence in Colombia and act in accordance with their own jurisdictional laws. The government is limited to choice after its threat.
As a result, foreign wagering sites continue to receive Colombians for years without a proper license. Colombians are not punished for playing on the internet, so they can play online games to make real money wherever they are. This situation is unacceptable and, eventually, the government should act.
In 2013, the government asked the Coljuegos to adopt the development of the online game licensing and regulation system. Coljuegos found some suggestions and finally did something with it that ended up being known as eGaming Law.
